Andy Murray Tennis News

Andy Murray has guaranteed he will return to the world no.2 ranking next week and in doing so secured the second seed’s spot at the upcoming Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London.

With Murray annihilating his forthcoming Davis Cup opponent David Goffin and Roger Federer losing out to John Isner’s service power at the BNP Paribas Masters at Paris’ Palais de Omnisports Bercy next week’s rankings are decided.

However with Federer’s early exit, Murray now knows if he wins the Paris title on Sunday he can clinch the year-ending no.2 spot which should also clinch him the cherished second seed’s place at the 2016 Australian Open.

Everything came up trumps for Murray who has dominated both his initial matches at Bercy against Borna Coric and Goffin. “Mentally for me, they are positive wins,” said the 28 year-old Scot.

“Securing the no.2 ranking is obviously a big priority for me before the end of the year because of what it will result in next year.”

And though Goffin tried to play down the significance of the result before Belgium host Britain in the Davis Cup final in Ghent, starting three weeks today, Murray insisted: “It’s obviously relevant because the match is only a few weeks away.

“Winning like this against Goffin doesn’t guarantee anything but I definitely wanted to play a good match.

“You learn how the ball comes off his racket,  his  speed of shot and where he’s quick or doesn’t move so well, “he said. “I know the clay will be different to hard court but indoor conditions don’t normally change too much.”
