Pensacola Futures Tennis News

It’s only been one day into the Main Draw, and the Pensacola Futures Tennis Tournament already has upsets, nail biters, and exciting tennis played. Seventh seeded Jean-Yves Aubone was upset in three sets by Peter Nagy, and Andrew Carter defeated fifth seeded Claudio Fortuna by a score of 6-1, 6-2. Fortuna is ranked 524th in the world.

The biggest upset of the day, however, occurred during a doubles match featuring second seeded Damon Gooch and Cameron Silverman (1167th world-ranked doubles team) against Nick Chappell and Dane Webb. The match went to a 10-point tiebreaker, which Chappell and Webb won by a score of 10-7.

Fourth seeded Wil Spencer won today by a score of 6-0, 6-1. Spencer is from the Santa Rosa Beach area, which is just an hour away from Pensacola. First seeded doubles partners Ben McLachlan and Anderson Reed also had an easy win today. Reed is from Mobile, Alabama, which is also just an hour away.
