Pensacola Futures Tennis News

Local high school player Chris Ephron and former UWF player and national champion Bruno Savi won their doubles match today and will advance to the finals.  They beat Patrick Daciek and Denis Nguyen, who beat the number one doubles seed yesterday. Nguyen played at the number one spot for Harvard for three years. Ephron and Savi lost the first set 3-6, but were able to win the second set 6-1. The third set was a 10-point tiebreaker, which Ephron and Savi won 10-7. Their match tomorrow will be the third of a tripleheader, which puts their start time after 1 p.m.

Other stories from today include Evan King, 474th ranked player in the world, losing 6-0 6-0 against Henrik Wiersholm. King holds 13 USTA Pro Circuit and ITF Pro Circuit doubles titles, as well as two singles titles. Wiersholm plays tennis at the University of Virginia and will play Denis Shapovalov tomorrow in the Singles Semifinals.

Wil Spencer, 482nd ranked player in the world, lost to Alex Rybakov in two sets. Rybakov, who ranked 14th in the ITF World Junior Rankings in January, reached the singles quarterfinals of the 2015 junior US Open. Rybakov will play Maximiliano Estevez tomorrow in the Singles Semifinals.
