The expanding family West Coast pizza empire of former French Open winner Michael Chang is preparing to take big marketing steps into Asia, with the Chinese-American and his brother Carl taking their California—Pieology Pizzeria to Guam and Saipan in the Pacific.

The Chang brothers – Michael serve as part-time coach to Asia’s top ATP player Kei Nishikori – have signed a franchising agreement to open a first pizza operation outside of the US, where the chain has already expended to 70 locations in 11 states. The company, founded by Carl four years ago, expects to open in the US territory of Guam in early 2016.

“There’s a significant demand across the globe for what Pieology has to offer, and that’s delicious, customizable food served at a great value,” said Carl Chang. “We’re thrilled to team up with such a talented franchise group as we enter uncharted territories and share Pieology’s signature pizza experience with communities in these exciting new markets.”

Pieology bases its appeal on fresh dough, slightly larger pizzas and a massive variety in choice of toppings, including 40 meats, cheeses, vegetables, herbs and spices. A stone oven cooks the pies in less than three minutes, with the option to then add extra flavor in the form of buffalo sauce, pesto and BBQ. Gluten-free is also part of the product mix.
