ESPN Tennis News

Three-time defending champion Novak Djokovic – who also won in 2008 – leads the elite field of eight at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals with weeklong coverage totaling 60 hours on ESPN3 starting Sunday, Nov. 15, with ESPN2 joining for 10 hours starting Thursday, Nov. 19, concluding with the championship live Sunday, Nov. 22, at 1 p.m. ET. Patrick McEnroe, Darren Cahill and Brad Gilbert will call the action from The O2 in London. ESPN3 will also present the weeklong doubles competition, headlined by the legendary American twin brothers Bob and Mike Bryan.

After winning three of the year’s four Majors, Djokovic has clinched the prestigious year-end No. 1 ranking.  The remaining seven spots in the field:

* Local favorite No.2 Andy Murray qualified for his eighth consecutive appearance
* Six-time winner and three-time runner-up No.3 Roger Federer making his record-breaking 14th successive World Tour Finals appearance
* French Open winner No.4 Stan Wawrinka reached the semifinals in his first two appearances the past two years in London
* Two-time London finalist No.5 Rafael Nadal making his return to the World Tour Finals after withdrawing last year due to injury
* No.6 Tomas Berdych notched wins this season in Shenzhen and Stockholm
* No.7 David Ferrer making his 7th appearance after one of his best seasons this year, capturing five ATP titles
* No.8 Kei Nishikori making his second appearance after making history in his finals debut last year as the first Asian player to qualify

In doubles, the World No.1-ranked Bryan Brothers will be looking to bring home the World Tour doubles title for a fifth time, adding to titles in 2003-04, 2009 and 2014. The American twins secured their 14th consecutive appearance at the finals after winning the Rogers Cup in Montreal (their 35th ATP World Tour Masters 1000 trophy and 109th crown overall). Last year, they clinched the year-end No. 1 Emirates ATP Doubles Team Ranking for a record 10th time and for a fifth consecutive season. Like the singles, doubles matches start Sunday, Nov. 15, and conclude with the championship Sunday, Nov. 22 at 10:30 a.m. with all the action on ESPN3.

The eight players/doubles teams are divided into two groups.  All play round-robin matches against opponents in their group to determine a winner and runner-up from each group, who advance to the knockout stage of the tournament.  For the semifinals, the winner of Group A plays the runner-up of Group B and the winner of Group B plays the runner-up of Group A.  Those two winners meet in the Championship.  All matches are best-of-three sets.
