Juan Martin Del Potro Tennis News

The score of his first match in almost a year will be of little import to Juan Del Potro, who is happy just to get back onto court as he returns to tennis on the Delray Beach hardcourts in Florida.

The Argentine is making yet another comeback after wrist surgery; he played his last match in March at Miami, and will start all over as he faces Denis Kudla of the US in the first round.

“The main thing is to be healthy, regardless of the outcome. The score for me is going to be notional,” Del Potro told The Nation newspaper.  “I’m in a struggle to compete.

“I don’t mind the result if I can win this fight that I have with my injury. I’ve never hung my head, I’m doing my best to sooner or later win this fight,” added the 27-year-old who won the US Open seven years ago before his chronic wrist problems on both sides set it.

Added the one-time ATP No. 4: “My goal is to try to play the first match and be able to train the next day – basically, be healthy and not suffer pain in the wrist.” Del Porto has undergone three wrist surgeries since 2010 on his non-dominant left wrist. He also underwent a 2010 operation on his right wrist.
