ITF Members Celebrate World Tennis Day Today

Over 80 of the ITF’s member National Associations are joining some of the world’s leading tennis stars in celebrating the second World Tennis Day today, Monday 3 March. World Tennis Day aims to promote tennis and increase participation among players around the globe.

 

Federer Wins In Dubai, Sets A Milestone And Prepares For Indian Wells And Miami

Roger Federer moved ahead of John McEnroe in the all-time list of tournament winners with the 78th singles title of his career, by winning the Dubai Duty Free Championships for the sixth time in his career, and he believes his decision to opt for a bigger racket was crucial.

 

Murray Will Have Trouble As He Prepares For Wimbledon

Andy Murray will certainly have his work cut out as he works to repeat as Wimbledon winner in four months, according to a man who should know, Pete Sampras.

Sampras said that the Wimbledon period may be the toughest that Murray has ever faced. "He is going to be talked about, just like he was last year, but before he was more of a contender, now he is the favorite."

 

Agassi Has Advice For Murray

Retired Andre Agassi may be following the template of fellow former greats John McEnroe and Pete Sampras by offering occasional sage advice to the current playing generation. Agassi, 43, began with Andy Murray as the Scot slowly builds up for the defense of his historic Wimbledon title this summer.

Said eight-time grand slam event champion Agassi: “It's a different mindset being someone who is expected to win versus somebody who is an underdog. Eventually you learn it doesn’t matter whether you are the favorite or the underdog, it doesn’t matter if you are No.1 in the world or No.100, the only thing that really matters is: are you getting better?"

 

Injury Forces Ferrer To Withdraw From Indian Wells

Tennis iron man David Ferrer has become a pullout casualty of the Indian Wells Masters after injuring his left leg in an Acapulco quarter-final and retiring against Kevin Anderson. World No 4 Ferrer missed his chance in Mexico to claim a fourth title from the past five editions.

 

Djokovic Forgets His Dubai Loss And Heads To Tennis In America

Novak Djokovic has put his loss in the Dubai semi-finals to Roger Federer behind as the Serb headed to New York for World Tennis Day, where he faced off against fellow ATP elite Andy Murray. Djokovic was beaten by Federer at the weekend in the emirate by Federer, who lifted his sixth Dubai trophy as his career gets quickly on track after a disappointing 2013.

Wilson Sporting Goods is seeking US Commercial Manager – Specialty Channel (Hard Goods)

Reports to:                  Global Commercial Director (Hard Goods)

Location:  Chicago, IL

Overview:

This role is responsible for driving our category strategies (within the Rqt Sports Specialty Channel of distribution) to achieve our brand and business objectives.  The Commercial Manager leads GTM (Go-To-Market) planning (within our I2C process) working closely with the Product, Marketing, and functional teams to also develop the GTM Toolbox and ensure alignment with our sales team for day to day execution.  This position works closely with the Global Commercial Director to develop the commercial strategies and GTM framework, validate KBDs and align KPIs to ensure the Commercial / GTM plan achieves profitable growth. 

Understanding the market landscape, including consumer targets, channel dynamics, key accounts, competition, and managing effectively our business objectives day to day are critical to success in this role.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Align the Commercial / GTM plan with our Global Brand objectives to maximize local sales and profitability
  • Develop the GTM Toolbox (sell-in / sell-thru / sell-out) working with our Marketing, Product, and Sales teams
  • Expert understanding of the category range, key products, end user benefits and the price/value relationship
  • Validate the range plan / mix to the consumer and channel target opportunities
  • Drive the local Assortment Plan and Pricing
  • Validate the Inventory plan and drive ongoing inventory action plans
  • Align KBDs and KPIs (working with the sales team)
  • Develop ongoing trade sales and promotional programs (working with sales team) 
  • Partner with Sales to identify business development opportunities within existing channel
  • Lead Commercial Briefings / GTM meetings and provide support for Sales Rep Launch meetings
  • Key Account presentation planning and support
  • Provide market data and competitor analysis

Measuring Success of role:

  • GM% and Revenue targets achieved
  • KPI targets achieved
  • Market share growth at specialty channel

Required Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor Degree in Business or related field
  • 5+ years in packaged goods, a related industry or sales
  • Strong background in tennis / avid player is required
  • Experience in marketing, finance and/or sales in the tennis racket industry is a plus

Other Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong communication (oral and written) and presentation skills
  • Solid organizational skills, analytical ability, and strategic planning ability
  • Strong computer proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint is required
  • Experience with SAP is a plus
  • Ability to travel, 30% required (primarily in U.S., with some limited international travel)

The College Park Tennis Club (CPTC) is interviewing for a full time sales manager at its facility in College Park ,MD, minutes from Washington DC.  

The CPTC is a premiere tennis club, a USTA Regional Training Center and  home of the Junior Tennis Champions Center and the University of Maryland tennis team. The CPTC is an award-winning facility and is recognized as one of the most comprehensive tennis venues in the United States.

Sales Manager is responsible for generating new memberships and maximizing retention of existing members.  Duties include internal and external lead generation, networking, prospecting, tours, corporate outreach and promoting our patented beginner tennis program, “Rally in 10”. Must be proficient with all social media, including generating leads on our websites, cptennisclub.net and jtcc.org. A tennis playing/teaching background is preferred and an appreciation of the values of the sport is mandatory.

This position reports directly to General MANAGER Ajay Pant and also to CEO Ray Benton on external sales and outreach. The most important function is to generate new business in the form of club memberships, club events and partnerships with organizations in the surrounding area.  A confident outgoing personality is essential as this person will be the initial identity of CPTC in the community.

OVERVIEW:

Wilson Sporting Goods is looking for a Digital Specialist to be responsible for supporting the design and implementation of all digital and community based assets for the Racquet Sports Division.  This hands-on role will execute the development and implementation of digital materials that support and improve the company’s online user experience while systematically growing the brands reach and presence. 

Specific duties may include:

  • Support the development, implementation and evolution of the Wilson Racquet Sports Divisions Business to Consumer (B2C) and Business to Business (B2B) online programs

  • Administer and monitor the businesses digital media strategies and performance, including scheduling, budgets and providing periodic status reports to management, and incorporating feedback to and from the executive level 

  • Administer and support the brands Social Media strategy and targeted marketing programs such as SEM, SEO, CRM, online media and other acquisition and customer retention programs

  • Administer and manage the scope of work with outside digital agencies and in-house marketing team to achieve critical online growth goals

  • Manage the user experience (UX) for Wilson.com/tennis and support the further development of Wilson’s global web presence

  • Manage brand and retail partner website shopping cart strategies including maintenance and brand promotional execution

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors Degree in design, marketing, computer science, or extensive and relevant experience

  • 3 years experience in completing and managing online projects with minimal oversight and against aggressive timelines

  • 3 years online support experience with a strong technical foundation

  • 3 years experience with online content management

  • 3 years experience drawing conclusions and creating action plans based on analysis of data

  • Previous Tennis experience is highly preferred (playing, coaching)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to digest web and online sales metrics to demonstrate return on investment and overall performance

  • Extensive experience in building brand communities utilizing social media content appropriate for Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc

  • Comprehensive knowledge of e-marketing strategies and implementation, including website content management, search engine optimization and tracking, database management, email marketing

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple requests at once

  • Continual attention to detail in producing deliverables, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines

  • Experience with working with marketing and sales professionals desirable

  • Strong knowledge of web technologies (HTML & JavaScript & Flash)

  • Limited travel about 5%

A Collection of Tennis Images For Sale

A professional tennis photographer has been shooting for almost 40 years at all the major and minor tennis tournaments for the wires systems, daily newspapers, magazines and advertising agencies. He has been to venues all over the world and has compiled tennis images (archives) of all the professionals and some juniors.  The images have all been preserved in a temperature-controlled environment and are color positives (slides), color and black & white negatives and contact sheets, as well as digital.
