Finals Facts

Mauresmo wins her 18th career Sony Ericsson WTA Tour singles title in her 35th final; she is 3-3 in finals in 2005, having also won Antwerp and Rome and finishing runner-up at Paris [Indoors], New Haven and Filderstadt
For the first time in her career, Mauresmo has won the same event three years in a row, having won the Advanta Championships in 2003 and 2004; she and Steffi Graf (1992, 1995, 1998) are the only three-time champions in Philadelphia
Dementieva, who was making her debut in Philadelphia this year, falls to 0-2 in finals in 2005 (Charleston) and 4-10 lifetime
Mauresmo 7-4 lifetime vs. Dementieva, having also won their most recent encounter in the Filderstadt SF
Mauresmo led 4-1 final set before Dementieva won four straight games to be serving at the match at 5-4; the Russian was two points from victory at 30-all and deuce in that game, but Mauresmo broke back and broke Dementieva’s serve to love in the 12th game to take the title
Coming in to Philadelphia, Mauresmo had lost opening-round matches (2r, after 1r byes) at Moscow (l. to Schiavone) and Zürich (l. to Srebotnik)
By reaching the SF this week, Dementieva secured the eighth and final singles berth in next week’s season-ending Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Championships presented by Porsche in Los Angeles; the first seven to qualify were Clijsters, Davenport, Sharapova, Pierce, Mauresmo, Schnyder and Petrova
Black/Stubbs win their ninth doubles title as a team; it was their fourth finals appearance from their past six events, having finished runners-up to Raymond/Stosur at Luxembourg and Moscow, but beating Hantuchova/Sugiyama in the Zurich final; it is Black’s 25th career doubles title and Stubbs’s 52nd
By winning the title, Black/Stubbs move into fifth place in the Doubles Porsche Race to the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Championships; however, 1st-placed Black/Huber will not be competing as Huber has just completed rehabilitation from knee surgery and 4th-placed Ruano Pascual/Suárez will not be competing as Suárez continues her recovery from hip surgery; the doubles teams competing at the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Championships will be Raymond/Stosur, Martinez/Ruano Pascual, Black/Stubbs and Likhovtseva/Zvonareva
With the season-ending Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Championships moving to Madrid, Spain next year, the Advanta Championships will not be held in 2006

Quotes
Amélie Mauresmo, 2005 Philadelphia singles champion:
"This is an unbelievable finish for me; I probably haven't realised it yet. It was a great effort for me to win three times. It doesn't happen very much, and I know it's tough to do, so I'm proud of what I've done, especially after bouncing back from two tough losses."

"This gives me a lot of confidence going into the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Championships. I needed matches and good wins; that's what I wanted, and that's what I got, so I won't complain about being tired."

"There were a lot of ups and downs for me but also for her. After leading 4-1 in the third, I told myself that I can't lose like that. I kept thinking that I could do what I did in the first set and kept my composure. I lost my rhythm in the second set and felt like I let her back in the match. I wasn't aggressive and was started to feel it physically, but I still managed to stay in control of the points in the third. I was more aggressive in the third, coming in more at 5-4 and 6-5 and putting pressure on her."

Elena Dementieva, singles runner-up:
"I'm disappointed about the final because it was so close and I came back from being down 4-1 in the third, but I think I had a great tournament and now I'm going to LA now. I did what I could but Amélie fought to the last ball. She likes to play on this surface and obviously feels good here."

"I'm upset that I didn't take any risks (at the end of the third). I wasn't going for my winners when I had the advantage."
