POSTMATCH NOTES
Baylor will face fifth-seeded Notre Dame
in the quarterfinals on Sunday, May 17
at 5 p.m. (CT). There was a power outage
at 8:22 p.m. which suspended play for an
hour and 15 minutes at the George P.
Mitchell Tennis Center. The match,
including the delay, lasted a little
over seven hours and ended at 2:12 a.m.
Baylor Head Coach Joey Scrivano
“Stanford played a great match. No one
deserved to lose tonight. We were very
fortunate to win. We didn’t play our
best tennis. Stanford was really on top
of us from the beginning of the night.
We just stuck around. I’m still in a
little bit of a shock that we won it,
because it didn’t look good for a long
time. It looked like everything was
against us. This was a huge win for us.
I know that anytime I’ve seen the lights
go out at a tennis match, whoever is
losing usually comes back and wins, so I
felt good about our chances. Outside of
that though, it just made the night
longer and I don’t know if it had much
of an effect on the match.”
Baylor Junior Csilla Borsanyi
“I don’t really have words. I’m way too
excited right now. I’m really happy that
I could pull it out for my team. The
match was really tough. We were right
there with each other. I think it just
came down to who wanted it more and I
really wanted it. I just had to stay
focused on my game and try not to think
about it being three-all (in the third
set). I just went point-by-point and
tried to do it. I’ve had the experience
in each of my years to be in a position
to clinch matches, so I am lucky that I
could handle it tonight.”
Stanford Head Coach Lele Forood
“I don’t think I’ve seen any matches go
until 2 o’clock in the morning. This was
a new one for me. It was just an epic
match. We just came up a little short
and they played very well. It definitely
had its ups and downs in every match and
obviously overall as well. It is one of
those college tennis matches that when
it winds up 4-3, it looks like it is
going to go different ways constantly
through the match. (Csilla) Borsanyi is
a little more experienced than Veronica
(Li) and she came up with the goods and
especially served well in the last game.
They were both hitting it and there was
no pushing. It was an excellent match to
finish up and to be the last match on.”
