Djokovic And Nadal Don’t Like US Open Finals On Monday

Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, the game’s two leading players at a time when male tennis has never had a better profile are many things. But unquestionably the Serb and the Spaniard are traditionalists and united in the belief they should have played the US Open yesterday rather later today on Monday.

Azarenka Says Don’t Forget Younger (Under 30) Players

As the "baby” of the final days of the US Open, 24-year-old Victoria Azarenka is warning the world not to forget about her generation of WTA tennis talent. The odd one out in a women's semi-final field in which the other three participants were aged over 30 says that she and her 20-something contemporaries are working to step up and take over in coming seasons.

Ageless, On Court, Paes, Is Inspired By Good Friend Stepanek

Leander Paes became the oldest tennis player to win a Grand Slam in the Open era at the age of 40 when he and Radek Stepanek teamed up to win the US Open. They stopped the Bryans pursuit of a Grand Slam and then destroyed Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares in the final.

Bartoli To Play At Wimbledon

Marion Bartoli, the reigning Wimbledon champion who announced her retirement from competitive tennis just 40 days after beating Sabine Lisicki to win her first  major title, will return to the grass of London SW19 to play again this month. Each September the All England Club stages an internal mixed doubles competition for members only to mark the closing of the grass courts for the winter. And Bartoli, who like all champions became an honorary member of the club the moment she won the title, has made a surprise request to play.

Murray Decries Discrepancy Between Women’s Best Of Three Vs. Men’s Best Of Five

Andy Murray remains slightly doubtful of the actual work required to win many women's matches at the US Open and any other grand slam event, with the Scot querying the fairness of equal prize money. For Murray, a defending champion in New York who lost in the quarter-finals to Swiss Stan Wawrinka, the differences between the men's and women's competitions are huge.

Nadal Disappointed On Olympic Choice for 2020

Madrid's defeat as a candidate city for the 2020 Olympics came as a blow to Rafael Nadal as the Spanish tennis ace prepared for his US Open final with Novak Djokovic. The Spanish capital came up third time unlucky in Olympic bids, with the thinking attributed to the IOC in awarding the Summer Games to Tokyo was to put the event in a "safe" pair of hands.
