Top Players Sign Up For Australian Open

An injury victim, and a men's disciplinary case will be the only top 100 men and women players missing from the field of January's Australian Open, officials confirmed on Wednesday.

 

Lawn Tennis Association Names A Woman As President

Britain may have had to wait 77 years for a Wimbledon men’s singles champion but until now, throughout 125 years of its’ existence, the Lawn Tennis Association hasn’t had a female president. Now retired school teacher Cathie Sabin, has broken tradition.

 

 

Tennis Participation Down in Great Britain

Britain may have its’ first male Wimbledon champion in 77 years but the Andy Murray effect is apparently not winning the battle to lure people back onto tennis courts. . . or those south of Hadrian’s Wall at least.

Regardless of the July triumph of Murray (of course a Scot) at the All England Club, and his Olympic gold medal winning effort on the same in the colors of Great Britain, Sport England's Active People Survey, released this morning, shows approximately 39,000 fewer people played tennis this year than in the previous 12 month period.

 

Junior Tennis Champions Center To Replace Two Top Coaches

The Junior Tennis Champions Center (JTCC), the world-class tennis training center in College Park, Md., announced that they are in the midst of a nationwide search to add the next great wave of American tennis coaches to their award-winning tennis program. The search coincides with the departure of Senior Directors Patricia Hy-Boulais and Yves Boulais.

 

 

Enqvist Sees Any One Of Top Three Favorites To Win Australian Open

1999 Australian Open finalist Thomas Enqvist finds it hard to go beyond the top players when looking for a title favorite at next month's Australian Open, The Swede who currently coaches his nation's Davis Cup squad, told the BBC that the trophy short-list doesn't extend much farther than Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and possibly Andy Murray.
