Head Of Tennis Australia Would Love To See Change In Format Of Davis Cup And Fed Cup

Former heads of Tennis Australia have influenced the progress of the International Tennis Federation with Brian Tobin president for eight years from 1991 to 1999 and Geoff Pollard the current vice-president.

However Tennis Australia’s current incumbent Steve Healy has broken ranks to join the growing chorus demanding a major overhaul for both the Davis and Fed Cups. Sydney lawyer Healy actually sits on the ITF board of directors but insists change is needed for the two main international team competitions in the world of tennis to ensure their very survival.


Williams Was The Sole Tennis Player on Time Magazine 100 Influential People

Serena Williams has been chosen by TIME magazine as one of its 100 most influential people. It is the second time Williams has appeared on the well-known annual issue, having first done so in 2010.


Djokovic Is Going To Be A Daddy

Novak Djokovic has had a busy but rewarding week. First the world no.2 was relieved to learn the wrist injury that bothered him so much during last week’s Monte Carlo Rolex Masters was not so serious as first feared. She may be 32 with a birthday in September, but Serena Williams seems more or less ageless to younger rival Agnieszka Radwanska, with the third-ranked Pole continually impressed with the evergreen form of the American.


U.S. Olympic Committee Honors Four Tennis Coaches

The USTA announced that four distinguished tennis coaches have been honored by the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) for their outstanding contributions to the sport of tennis in 2013: 

University of Virginia men’s head coach Brian Boland was named the National Coach of the Year; Joseph Gilbert, coach of 2013 USTA Boys’ 18s national champion Collin Altamirano, was named Developmental Coach of the Year; Gordon Uehling III, of CourtSense in Tenafly, N.J., received the Doc Counsilman Award for sport science; and Jan Beeman, of Dallas, was recognized as Volunteer Coach of the Year.
