Maria Sharapova’s infamous ‘cow on ice’ comment to describe the disorientation she used to feel playing on clay is one of the most quoted lines in modern tennis. But going into Rome’s Internazionale BNL d’Italia with 11 wins to her name on the surface this season and not a solitary defeat, the uneasiness seems over.


Wawrinka Is Comfortable On Clay

Tournament third-seeded threat Stanislas Wawrinka says that unlike many other players, making the switch from hardcourt to clay is not a major problem for him. In fact. the Australian Open and Monte Carlo winner says that after a couple of days on the surface, he's set to compete.


Nadal Is Hoping For Good Play On Clay

Rafael Nadal is looking for a good performance at Rome following his unconvincing performance in the final at Madrid.

Nadal won the title when Nishikori retired in the third set with a back injury after earlier being up a set and a break. Nadal acknowledged he had been dominated in the first set, but said he played better in the second set and was eventually able to benefit from his opponent's injury.
