After Surgery, Del Potro Has His First On-Court Practice

Juan Del Potro has held his first hit-out at home in Argentina after his spring left wrist surgery with the Argentine optimistic of getting back into the ATP mix as soon as he can.

The former US Open winner underwent his operation on March 24 and could be back on court in the autumn.

He revealed the news on Facebook: "Hey everybody! I've got good news to share: I'm back on a tennis court! It was a light hit, some forehands and volleys without major movement, since I still wear the splint on my left wrist. At this point I have to be cautious, without skipping any step during the recovery time. As always, thanks for your messages!!"

While he gave no further details about a comeback, organizers in Kuala Lumpur announced that he is entered in their event from September 20, a good indication of his intended time line.

Del Potro exchanged some light volleys and slice backhands - a particularly troubling shot for his injured wrist - during a 20-minute session with coach Franco Davin. Del Potro last competed on the ATP in Dubai in February, where he had to retire in pain in the first round.
